Psoriasis

This is a persistent skin disease that causes the skin to become inflamed, producing red, thinckened areas with silvery scales, most often on the scalp, elbows, knees and lower back.  It can vary from extremely mild to severe, latter covering large areas of the body.  It is not contagious. The cause is not fully known but much research has taught us that complex changes occur with the function of the skin's immune system.  Although there is currently no cure for psoriasis, there are multiple treatments available that can help to clear up symptoms. Treatment options include topical medications, oral medications, phototherapy, lasers, and a new class of medications called biologics.
